Files with Raw Log data
Select one or more files containing uncompressed raw log data for your server.
This is the basic data that is analyzed by Web Log Analyzer by Search Term. A web log is a record of all requests for a file or parts of a file on your site. Raw web log data is made available by most quality (paid) web space providers. If your web space provider does not allow you access to raw log data then you will not be able to get statistics by Search Term using this program.
If you select more than one log file, the files must be in sequence. It is possible to specify multiple files using an *-notation.
The default format of the log data can be selected from the drop-down list below the list of log files. A different specific format can also be chosen for each log file using the Edit screen.
The files must be in correct date sequence. Use up and Down buttons to put them in sequence.
Targets
Specify pages or files that you want to analyse.
To check whether a page was reached, simply specify the relative URL of the page (E.g. buynow.htm or /faq/buynow.htm).
For each group of users (users who find your site with a specific search term), it will be calculated how many reach each target page.
Only four targets are checked. Use Up and Down on the list of targets to ensure that the first four targets are those required.
Click the Complex Target button to specify more complex targets.
If the target page is a downloaded file (e.g. an EXE or ZIP), you can specify the number of bytes that should have been downloadded. This target will be met even if the user has some software which requests chunks of your file seperately. Such programs often request more than the exact total number of bytes in the file, Web Log Analyzer will consider the target achieved if at least the required number of bytes wqas downloaded.
You can also check a target requiring that any of up to four pages were requested. Or that all of a group of pages were requested.
If match case is not checked then the capitalisation of the filename will be ignored. I.e. Index.htm will be regarded as the same as INDEX.HTM
If Exact filename required is not checked then a target of buynow.htm will be satisfied when any of pages
/buynow.htm [www.domain.com/buynow.htm]
/faq/buynow.htm [www.domain.com/faq/buynow.htm]
etc. are requested.
If targets are changed, data must always be analysed again using Analyse Search Engine Results (check targets over selected date range) before changes are reflected in new reports created.

This Option allows you to select search terms that should be grouped when report Grouped Search Terms is created. Usually search terms that have the same words but with differences in singular-plural and/or declensions of verbs will not give any extra info about what the user was seeking. It is most useful to see results only for the total for that group.
E.g.:

can conveniently be grouped using this option with a single line of stats displayed for the group.
Search terms will be added to groups from the list of search terms found for the current analysed data. Use new or edit to define search terms included in a group.
The list on the left will include all search terms that have not yet been included in any of the current groups. The number following each search term is the number of times that search term was found in the current date range. The search terms are sorted by count.
The easiest way to select search terms to be added to the current group is to enter a word and click the Select al Terms with Word button. You can then review the terms selected in the left hand list beforw using Copy to move them to the right hand list.
After using Copy or Remove on this screen, the moved items will always be selected. Click Remove or Copy to reverse the change.
All changes will be saved ONLY when you click OK on the edit group screen.
