'Files with Raw Log data' - Program Help start.
Use this option to select a raw log file and to add all info from the file to your database.
The list shown is only files that you have selected to be processed. To create reports from the log data, you must select the file and press the Add button on this screen.
Each file should contain uncompressed raw log data for your site.
This is the basic data that is analyzed by Web Log Analyzer by Search Term. A web log is a record of all requests for a file or parts of a file on your site. Raw web log data is made available by most quality (paid) web space providers. If your web space provider does not allow you access to raw log data then you will not be able to get statistics by Search Term using this program.
The default format of the log data can be selected from the drop-down list below the list of log files. A different specific format can also be chosen for each log file using the Edit screen.
The files can be in any sequence on this list. Use up and Down buttons to put them in the sequence you prefer.
Data will only be available after it has been ADDED to the data base.
Use the Add button below the list to read the raw log data and add it to the database.
When you press the Ad button, addition of data is done in two stages. The first stage will add logline records to a table on the database, the secone stage will analyse the log line records and create a summary record for each visitor.
Either stage can be interrupted by pressing the Stop button on the progress info screen. If the process is interrupted during the first stage, you will be prompted whether you want to analyse the (incomplete) data or not.
If you specify a raw log file which starts or ends in a date-range for which data already exists on the database, a warning will be shown.
You can still add the raw log data but every record will be checked against records already existing on the database. Whilst duplicates are found for 100% of records, no data will be added. Once some new data is found all records will be counted including duplicate lines.
NB Sometimes raw log files will contain duplicate lines because a visitor is using a download manager which makes seperate requests for equally sized parts of a file (e.g. a downloaded program). If two of these requests are made at the same time, the web log lines will often be identical.
