b press F8 to view each link. The last link will return here.

Use F7 to request selected Links

Return to tutorial step 1

2. How to View List of Links. Changing Which Links are Fetched.

To see the list of available [Green] links or the list of Viewed [Purple] links, Keep the Ctrl key pressed and click on the box for that colour with the mouse.

To show the KybIE menu right click anywhere on the KybIE screen.
Most functions mentioned so far are also available from the menus.

To get all links from the page when F7 is pressed rather than only the selected ones, click the menu option "Selected Only" to uncheck it.
Now press F7 again and you will see a warning as the number of links to be fetched is high.

The Links to be fetched can also be restricted using a rule with the menu option "Get Only Links Containing ..."

3. Options to Show-Hide Pictures and to disable-enable scripts and plug-ins.

Most other KybIE functions - e.g. display a list of links in any of the lists and specify what to fetch - are accessible from the KybIE context menu.

Right Click on the Kybie window to show the KybIE menu. You can also press Ctrl+Q on any Internet Explorer window to show the kybIE menu.

To continue with the tutorial selectthis link now and press F7.Then Press F8 so this text is displayed again.

On this menu you can choose whether pictures on pages fetched by KybIE shoudl be displayed or not. Click item "Show Images" on the menu now so that it is unchecked. This page will then be redisplayed with out images. The following pictures will be hidden:

Simply press Ctrl+M to check the Show Images menu item and redisplay the page again.
This feature is especially useful for reading message boards and news sites where you are interested first in only the text. Im Show Images is not checked then KybIE will not download the pictures and the page will be fetched much faster.

This option will not however affect how other pages are displayed. KybIE does *NOT* change Internet Explorer options. In fact, KybIE makes absolutely no changes to Internet Explorer at all. Nevertheless, many functions are available with keys directly from any Internet Explorer window.

This is important because changes made to Internet Explorer will sometimes cause a problem with sites or other programs that previously worked fine. Since KybIE operates independantly and externally, it cannot cause anything to break.

Any page that needs cookies and some pages that use scripts or plug ins should be loaded using Internet Explorer and not requested using KybIE. This will work exactly as it did before KybIE was installed.
An especially useful feature of KybIE is the F9 - cycle key. Simply press F9 to switch easily between all open IE windows.

4. Introduction to the shortcut keys. How to Get Help.

With KybIE you can use keys to show the context menu, to see the list of links for any colour, even making the use of multiple Internet Explorer windows easier.

A UNIQUE feature of KybIE is that all Keys even work on popup message screens.
Most software would require you to:

KybIE allows the shortcut key for the function to be pressed on the menu screen.

Another important shortcut key is Ctrl+Q which will show the KybIE menu. Ctrl+Q can be used from most KybIE message screens and from any Internet Explorer (IE) window.

To show the list for each colour a shortcut key is available with letters corresponding to the letters used on all menu s. Ctrl+Shift+ B, A, G, P and J will show the Blue, Amber, Green, Purple and Red/rejected lists respectively.

An important guarantee with KybIE is that NO CHANGES have been made to Internet Explorer. So any page that worked previously in Internet Explorer (IE) will work in just the same way now. Pages that need cookies and most pages that use scripts (e.g. chat) should be loaded directly in a seperate Internet Explorer window.

To make use of other Internet Explorer (IE) windows easier, the F9 key is defined to allow you to switch more easily between the open IE windows.

For a complete list of keys available from Internet Explorer windows, press Alt+Shift+F1

To display the context specific help for the last function used at any time, press Alt+F1

This is the end of the beginners tutorial. There is a lot more info in this help file. To make skim-reading of the most important parts easier, we have highlighted a summary of the most important features in green. Simply scroll down through both this page and the Menu Items help page.

Additionally extra features available only with KybIE Pro are highlighted in purple.

More Info - Tutorial step 1 - Use F7 to request selected Links.

F7 is one of the most important keys for using KybIE. F7 will request links from the current Internet Explorer (IE) page.

To request a group of selected links, Select the links and press the F7 key on your keyboard. Links will be added to one of the lists according to whether they are already available or not.

In the status bar (bottom line of Internet Explorer) you will see a message that:
- 3 links are added to the green list (they are links to KybIE help pages and are available from your computer).

On the KybIE window, the corresponding numbers appear in the coloured blocks.

NB At this time, KybIE will also save:

Use F8 to display available pages

F8 is the second very important key for using KybIE.
F8 will display each of the available Pages/Links in turn.

When you pressed F8 first, you were shown the first of the links that you selected.
When you pressed F8 again you were shown the second link.

These links were in the green list because the page was available. Once they have been viewed they are moved to the purple list.

The items will be displayed from the list(s) which are marked with an *
Click on any of the coloured boxes to change the list which is being viewed.

Click on the purple block now.
Then use F8 to view the first two links again.

When finished, click on the blue block. Note that both Amber (partial) and Green (available) lists are marked with an *. Green items will be displayed first and then any amber items if all green items have been viewed.

Select the green list and press F8 again when you are ready to return to the tutorial.

More Info - Tutorial step 1 - Use F8 to display available pages.

As soon as you have pages in the amber list or green list (when the number in the box of that colour is 1 or more), you can display the page.

Press F8 to display the next available page.

When F8 is used to show the next link, the link text for that page and the item number from the list will be shown in the Internet Explorer status bar.

Any page from the complete (green) list that has been viewed is moved to the purple list.

Press F8 again to display the following page.

If you are viewing the purple list a message will be displayed when the end of the list is reached. F8 can be used directly on the message screen to start again at the top of the list.

Pages on the amber list are those for which the basic text / structure is available but not all pictures and/or formatting elements have been received. Pages on the amber list may or may not be displayed correctly and may be incomplete.

A useful extra key available only with KybIE Pro is Shift+F8 which displays the next item in a new window. Otherwise KybIE items are generally always displayed in the same Internet Explorer (IE) window. If you navigate to a differrent location by clicking on links in that window however, a new Internet Explorer window will be created the next time you press F8.

'Tutorial' - Program Help end.

This help text will be shown when Shift+F1 is pressed after using menu item Tutorial on menu "".

It can also be shown using menu item Help for Last Function on menu "Help".
