Download Application Types
Brief summary / examples:
| To download | specify here |
|---|---|
| ONLY pdf | |
| ONLY programs | octet-stream |
| pdf and programs | pdf|octet-stream |
Explanation:
KybIE will usually be used to fetch Links that point to web pages (html) or plain text or images. These types of content will always be fetched. Some links however point to other types of content. For example pdf or a download link ponting to an exe/zip file.
In general, other types of content will NOT be fetched by KybIE.
Content of type application will be fetched sometimes according to paramteres here.
A list of subtypes of application data to accept can be specified here.
Or you can check the box to download all content of type application.
If a link is rejected due to content type, it is simply moved to the red (rejected) link list.
More Info:
Where is the content saved

NB If bandwith is limited or expensive
How to specify a list of application subtypes to be download
Technical explanation.
Where is the content saved
If the specific subtype is selected or all applications is checked, content will be downloaded and saved.
The content [pdf, zip, exe etc.] will always be downlaoaded and saved to the KybIE cache. This will happen without any prompting of the user or progress indication.
How are images handled
Selecting a link that points direct to an image will always cause the image to be downloaded.
Images can also be saved by selecting the menu option on the IE context menu for images.
Further automatic processing of images is:
- When images are downloaded they are renamed so that the local file has the correct filetype.
- When a saved or selected image is displayed from a KybIE list, it will be shown in a page with the image centered at the top of the page.
How is application data handled when displayed from a KybIE list
If content other than text or images is downloaded, a KybIE page will be the page available on the list of links that shows the content type and automatically refreshes the page with that content. Internet Explorer will then take the same action as it would if the link to the content was clicked in IE.
For example internet explorer will prompt with options to save or open a Zip/Exe file.
When an item is viewed with F8, the file will already have been downloaded and saved to your hard disk in a subdirectory of the KybIE cache. If you choose save the version from your KybIE cache will be copied to the location you choose.
NB Even if the box is checked content of types other than application, image, text will NOT be fetched by KybIE.
NB If bandwith is limited or expensive
**NB** This is a useful feature if you have a fast internet connection and your bandwidth is cheap. If your connection is slow or expensive you should only change these options if you understand them fully. **NB**
How to specify a list of application subtypes to be download
To specify a list of subtypes to be download specify the subtype values seperated by |
e.g. pdf|octet-stream will allow both binary data (exes) and pdf files.
The most common examples of subtype for content type application are:
pdf - often used for forms or brochures these files contain text, pictures and/or other media. They will require Adobe acrobat or the Internet Explorer plug-in to be installed on your computer in order to view them.
octet-stream - [exe files] this is a program that can be executed on your computer. the download link of most software will point to an exe file.
zip - this is a compressed set of files. the download link of some software will point to an zip file, if a web site wants to offer a group of files with a single download link it will often be as a zip file.
Technical explanation.
Links are processed according to the Content-Type: in the HTTP header returned for the location by the server.
Rules for processing of links are:
0. Content-Type: text/* will be downloaded always.
1. Content-Type: image/* will be downloaded when show images is selected.
2. Content-Type: application/* will be downloaded (any subtype) when the option "All Applications" is checked on the KybIE options screen.
3. Otherwise Content-Type: application/* will only be downloaded if the subtype (after the /) is included in the list specified on the KybIE options screen. Subtypes are seperated in this list by character |.
Retry failed requests (Automatically rerequest)
When a request for a page or any component (image, style sheet, etc.) fails, the request will be retried automatically a number of times if this option is checked.
NB. The counter will be reset and the request will be retried again this many times if the background localise process is restarted. The retry counter will also be reset when the component [or a page using it] is rerequested manually from the page lists (Info. Link Lists. Sets - Green (complete) URL-File List).
Requests will be retried [only] when they fail due to the following errors:
- Warning. Data may be Incomplete - Connection Lost before all data recd.
- Empty file received from Remote Server.
- Cancelled By User [by Remote Server]
- Cannot Connect to site: PC is offline; Connection temporarily stopped; Or domain does not exist.
- Timed out. Net connection too slow.
When an item is rerequested, a record of the rerequest is added to the list of errors for that item. See List Items Reqd / Problems
Control check for new KybIE versions
After installation and every 10 days, KybIE will access the site http://www.1keytools.com/ to determine whether a new version or updates to the current version are available.
When information about a new version or updates is received it will be displayed in a pop up message.
Each time the version check is done the following information will be sent to Kyb Software:
date and time of KybIE installation, total number of pages fetched with KybIE, build no for your copy of KybIE and (when applicable) an indicator Lite or Pro.
No other information will be sent. Ever.
All information will be used only by Kyb Software for compilation of statistics and will never be sold to any external organisation. Check 1keytools.com for our complete privacy policy.
| Buy KybIE GetEmAll Pro Now to switch off or change the frequency of the automatic version check |
The button to check now will send a request for new version info to www.1keytools.com and show the message when it is received. A message will also be shown if no info is available.
The last message can also be displayed here.
Some messages will display several times or for a number of days at a defined interval.
With KybIE Pro, click the Turn Off Message button to stop the current message being displayed again. You will then only receive further messages about new versions when the next version update is done according to the options specified.

Parameters for automatic cleanup of cache
When you press the GetEmAll Get Links key [F7], some warnings and processing to determine link text is optional.
Limiting Links to fetch
F7 options - Warning - Too Many Links Selected
An [optional] warning is shown if the total number of links exceeds the number entered here. The warning screen will tell the number of links to be fetched and allow you to continue or cancel the request.
Enter 9999 if you never want to see warning.
F7 options - Scheme Warning
An [optional] warning is shown if links are selected which will not be fetched by KybIE, eg. mail:// or javascript:// links.
F7 options - Link Text including Alt text, description etc.
The link text shown on the list of links is usually the blue underlined text that is shown as a link on the web page. To add the text shown when you move the mouse over a link or image that is a link, check this option.
Grab All Images is available from the IE Toolbar menu or using a shortcut key from the IE window [Shift+F7]
Grab Images - Size Limit
On many web pages, small GIF or even JPEG images are used for buttons, decoration etc. When you grab all images from a page, usually you want only the larger main pictures. Enter a limit here as number of kBytes (1024 bytes) to skip all images smaller than that size.
Grab Images - Prefix Link Text "Image: "
Images will be added to the KybIE list using the Alt Text and Description (text displayed on the page when the image is not availabl and popup text shown when you move the mouse over the image) as the Link text. If this option is checked the Link text will also be prefixed Image: This is especially useful as lists can always be sorted using the Sort Shortcut key [X] after moving the cursor to the column required.
Main Folder for Temporary Files
Like Internet Explorer, KybIE saves files that are retrieved from the internet on your hard drive.
The folder (or directory) in which the temporary files are saved is called the KybIE cache location.
The KybIE cache is structured so it is much easier to see what the files are.
There will be a subdirectory (folder) for each domain name. All files fetched from a domain will be in the subdirectory of the domain.
To specify a differrent main directory here, first define the directory using Kyboma or Windows Explorer.
When this directory is changed, none of the existing KybIE cache files will be moved. If you want any existing cached files to be used when pages are requested you should move the existing directory to the new location using Kyboma or Windows Explorer.
NB After this directory has been changed and KybIE restarted, none of the existing KybIE cache files will be deleted according to the automatic cleanup parameters specified.
Parameters for automatic cleanup of cache
The KybIE cache can be cleaned up automatically by checking the boxes to delete KybIE cache files and / or GetEmAll details. If options to cleanup the KybIE cache are selected, files will be deleted permanently from your hard disk and must be fetched from the internet if needed again.
KybIE cache files are the web pages and required components (pictures, stylesheets, etc.) for all links/pages requested with KybIE as well as the pages on which the link was selected (Link Source page).
GetEmAll details are also stored in the KybIE cache with one file for each use of F7. They contain the list of URLs, Link Texts as well as details of the Link Source.
Files of either type can be deleted after they have not been read by any windows program for a number of days. Check the box and specify the number of days after which files should be deleted to enable the cleanup. Cleanup will be done in the background and without notification.
NB KybIE will delete **ALL** files in all subdirectories (sub folders) of the KybIE cache location if these options are selected. THIS INCLUDES files that you have saved there with another application. YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO save files in the KybIE cache folder or any subfolder of the KybIE cache folder.
If the box for either item is not checked no files of that type will be deleted. This is sometimes the best option if you have plenty of disk space.
A manual cleanup of pages is made easier by the structure of the KybIE cache.
There will be a subdirectory (folder) for each domain name. All files fetched from a domain will be in the subdirectory of the domain.
For example, since ads are often fetched from a seperate domain which contains the word ad or banner that directory can be deleted releasing the space used for ads but retaining the main page content.
