Define Keys allows you to define shortcut keys
- to have the same effect as ANY item on ANY menu.
- to do one of the special shortcut actions defined in KybIE.
- to define a seperate action for a key together with EACH combination of Alt, Shift and Control keys.
- to define a key to work either on KybIE screens or from IE windows or both.
NB The easiest way to see a complete list of keys that are currently defined is to select Keys from the Help menu.
The Define Keys process has 3 parts.
1. Choose a key to define.
2. Select from the existing defintions for that key or choose to create a new key
3. Enter the definition for the key
1. Choose a key to define.
Simply press the key you want to define. Any letter, number or function key is allowed.
The arrow keys and Pg Up, Pg Dn, Insert and Delete, Home and End keys are also allowed.
The numeric keypad keys are allowed but only when Num Lock is selected on your keyboard.
NB F1 will show this help as usual for all KybIE screens. To Change the definitions for F1 choose Keys from the Help menu and press Define Key.
2. Select from the existing defintions for that key or choose to create a new key
The existing defintions will be shown for the key if any. There can be seperate defintions for each Alt-Ctrl-Shift combination.
E.g.
F8 will show the next item in the current list
Shift+F8 will show the next item in the current list in a new IE window (only available with KybIE Pro).
You can delete any of the existing definitions from this screen. Deletion of key definitions will not be reversed if you press cancel. Deletion is permanent.
To change an existing definition, select it and press OK.
To add a definition for an Alt-Ctrl-Shift combination that is not yet defined, select the screens on which you want the key to work and press New.
A key together with any of Shift-Alt-Ctrl can only be defined once for a particular screen. The list of screen shows the combinations that are available using abbreviations:
- = None | C = Ctrl | S = Shift | A = Alt.
I.e. "[-; A; CS only]" for key K means that K without any of Alt-Shift-Ctrl can be defined or Alt+K or Ctrl+Shift+K.
3. Enter the definition for the key.
A list of all menu items will be shown with additional special shortcut actions listed at the top and/or bottom.
Simply select the menu action which you want to be done when the key is pressed.
The Alt-Ctrl-Shift combinations which are available on *ALL* selected screens will be listed. Check at least one of these.
NB If the list of screens for which the key applies is changed then the Alt-Ctrl-Shift combinations which are available may also change.
To change the list of screens for which the key applies, press the Change List of Screens button and select screens required.
NB Keep Ctrl pressed and click second, third item to select more than one screen.
Press Cancel at any stage to stop without changing the selected definition. Deletion of key definitions will not be reversed if you press cancel.
Press OK to save the new definition. Keys will then be loaded again which involves a short delay.
