Select Dirs Files to list
Select Directory/Files can be used either:
- To select a single directory (when Multiple Directories is not checked) or
- To select a list of directories and files (when Multiple Directories is not checked)
If Multiple Directories is checked, the select Directories/files screen will be expanded to include a List of files for selection and the current list to be used on the right.
Auto refresh file list will cause the file list to be refreshed whenever the selected directory is changed on the directory tree. This option is only available for a single directory list.
The file type and Include Subdirectories can also be changed here (on the left part of the screen).
This value is used always when a single directory is refreshed or searched.
When a list of directories and files is refreshed or searched, this value is the default value for any directory in the list for which a specific value is not specified.

To select a single directory.
Choose the directory required in the Select Directory section.
To expand any directory and show it's subdirectories, press + key on the number keypad or double_click or use double_click key (Z).
To select a list of directories and files.
Check Multiple Directories.
Select any directory and press A or double click or use double_click key (Z) to add it to the list on the right.
To add Individual files:
a. choose the directory containing the file in Select directory.
b. select the file(s) required.
c. press L or double click or use double_click key (Z) to add the file(s) to the list on the right.
The Add Dir and Add File button will achieve the same result.
If File or directory names are too long to be fully displayed in the current font, press R to increase the size of this section. To decrease the size, continue to press R until size is returned to normal. Using D to decrease the font size may also allow you to read the longer names.
A directory entry in the List of Directories and Files to List can also (optionally) specify:
- whether to Include Subdirectories
(neither) means use default value for Include Subdirectories
<+> means override default value and list/search all subdirectories of this directory
<-> means override default value and do NOT list/search subdirectories of this directory
- a list of file types to search in the directory
To change specific type/subdirs option for directories in the list:
a. select the entries in the list on the right
b. select the type / Include Subdirs option below the list on the right
c. press Set Type/Set subdirs button
To add a directory to the list with a specific type/subdirs option:
a. select the directory in Select dir on the left part of the screen
b. select the type / Include Subdirs option below the list on the right
c. press Add with type & subdirs button
To remove specific type/subdirs option for directories in the list:
a. select the entries in the list on the right
b. press remove button to delete the entry from the list
c. select the directory again in Select dir on the left part of the screen
d. press add dir to re-add it to the list
If not specified, the default values shown on the left are used.
Several directories and files can be selected at the same time in the list of directories and files on the right by holding Ctrl or Shift down whilst entries are clicked with the mouse. Remove or Set buttons will then apply to all items selected.
Several files can be selected at the same time to be added from the list of files on the left by holding Ctrl or Shift down whilst entries are clicked with the mouse.
Press OK to save changes and continue. Other selections can then be changed before file list is refreshed.
Press Apply (when available) to save changes and refresh the file list.
Press Cancel to lose any changes made and return.
Select By File Type
Select By Type allows selection of the file types that will be used to make the file list when refresh is pressed.
The file Types in the list are always shown in the format 'name (*.t1|*.t2|f1*.*)'.
The files that are selected will be any file that matches ANY of the *-notation masks.
I.e. a.t1, file2.t1, file7.t2, f1.htm, f1www.jpg will all be selected.
a.t4, file2, file7.t1h, f22.htm, fwww.jpg will all be rejected.
To use a file type definition on the list, select it.
To add a file type definition, press the "New Type" button.
To change a file type definition on the list, select it and press the "Edit Type" button.
To delete a file type definition from the list, select it and press the "Remove Type" button.
To change the order of the file type definition list, press the "Change Sequence" button.
When using the screen to Enter New Type or Edit Type, enter a single file type specification in each of the boxes without the | separator. If more boxes are required, press the "Add Line" button.
Other options used to define the file list to be created are Show Hidden Files, Show System Files, Include SubDirs, and Show Directories
"Show Hidden ...", "Show System ..." will determine whether all files / directories with attributes (properties) Hidden / System are shown or not. See Properties on the File menu.
"Include SubDirs" determines whether files and directories in all subdirectories of each directory listed are also listed when refresh is done.
"Show Directories" will determine whether directories are shown in the file list.
If this option is not checked no directories will be shown in the filelist.
The changes to selected file type and options will be saved when OK or Apply is pressed.
They will only affect the file list when the next refresh is done.
Press OK to save changes and continue. Other selections can then be changed before file list is refreshed.
Press Apply (when available) to save changes and refresh the file list.
Press Cancel to lose any changes made and return.
Keys are also available to change the file type/options:
- Ctrl+4 will show the Select File Types screen
- Ctrl+Alt+S will change File Type selected to All types (*)
- Ctrl+S will change the Include Subdirs Option. If it was checked it will be unchecked. If it was unchecked, it will be checked.
Select Columns
Select Columns will show a list of the columns that will be used to make the file list when refresh is pressed.
To add or remove a column from the selection:
1a. Click the name of the column in the list **or**
1b. Use UpArrow/DownArrow and then press the space bar to select the column.
2. Press OK or Apply to save the changes.
If columns are removed from the list they will be hidden when you press OK or Apply to save the changes.
If columns are added to the list, they will be displayed when refresh is next done. If data is available the column will be displayed immediately.
Data will be available if the added column was also selected when refresh was last done or it contains data that is always read. Data for columns sequence number, Path, FileName, Type and Size are always read.
Press OK to save changes and continue. Other selections can then be changed before file list is refreshed.
Press Apply (when available) to save changes and refresh the file list.
Press Cancel to lose any changes made and return.

All columns selected in GREEN on the file list will be removed from the list.
The data for the removed columns will still be retained until the next time refresh is done for that file list.
The columns can be shown again by selecting them on the Add/Remove Col list.

Add/Remove Column - Single Col or Set of Cols
This option can be used to add one of the pre-defined sets of columns or to add/remove any single column to the list of columns to be displayed.
The pre-defined sets of columns are:
File Name Cols - Path, FileName, Type
File Manager Cols - Path, FileName, Type, Date, Time (Modified), Size, Attrib
If any of these sets are selected, all columns that are not already included in the list of columns to be displayed will be added.
Any single column can also be added or removed.
Columns that are currently included in the list will be shown with a check mark on the left.
Use keys 0-9 to position to columns number 0,10,20 / 1,11,21 / 2,12,22 / etc. Then press the Enter key to Select or Unselect a column.
If columns are removed from the list they will be hidden immediately.
If columns are added to the list, they will be displayed when refresh is next done. If data is available the column will be displayed immediately.
Data will be available if the added column was also selected when refresh was last done or it contains data that is always read. Data for columns sequence number, Path, FileName, Type and Size are always read.
Multiple Dir Selection
Options "Multiple Directory ..." and "Include Subdirs" are part of the selections that are used when the file list is refreshed.
A separate value for these options is kept for each file list window.
They can be changed:
- Using Quick Options selection on the Edit menu
- In Options: Make File List
- On the Select menu ("Multiple Directory ..." only)
- From the Enter Find Criteria screen for Find Files Containing Text
- Using Select Dirs & Files to list from the Select menu
- Using the keys defined [Usually Ctrl+M, Ctrl+S respectively]
- Using the keys defined to change the option AND refresh the file List [Usually M, S respectively. These keys will be available only if you have initialised the keys and selected the option for extra Keys. See Initialise Keys / Include Extra Single Keys for Kyboma]

All Items Selected (files and/or directories) in the Current Section will be added to the Dirs/files to be listed if they are not already included in that list.
The Current Section is the part (directory tree, file list or text) which has a white background.
To change the section, press tab or click on the section required.
Items Selected depends on Current Section.
. When the current section is directory tree - the directory selected is actioned.
. When the current section is file list - the files and/or directories selected in blue and marked with * will be actioned.. If no files are selected in blue, the files selected in green will be actioned.
. When the current section is the text section - the file currently displayed will be actioned.
NB If a directory is included in the list but a specific file type/Include Subdirs option have been specified for that directory then the directory will be added again with no specific option.
Use the Select Dirs/Files To List screen to view and change the resulting list.
This option is only available/used for multi directory lists. See Multiple Dir Selection.

Items Selected (files and/or directories) in the Current Section that are included in the dirs/files to list will be removed from that list.
See Add selected for a description of which files will be removed when found.
NB If a directory is included in the list but a specific file type/Include Subdirs option have been specified for that directory then the directory will NOT be removed. It must be removed using the Remove button on the Select Dirs/Files To List screen.
This option is only available/used for multi directory lists. See Multiple Dir Selection.

To discard the current set of Dirs/Files to list and start a new list, select a directory in the directory tree and click this menu item.
This menu item is available only when the current section is directory tree.
This option is only available/used for multi directory lists. See Multiple Dir Selection.
Font (all parts)
Use "Font ...", "Increase ...", "Decrease ..." on the Select menu to Change Font/Size for all sections on a file list window.
Keys Ctrl+standard Font/Size key can also be used (Ctrl+F/I/D).
To view all sections with the same Font, Use Ctrl+F.
The Font displayed will be from the file list section for the window. When you press OK on the Font selection screen, all sections of that file list window will be changed to have the same font.
If a (show text/show cell) pop up window was shown using text from the current file list window, the font/size on that pop up window will also be changed when Ctrl+F/I/D is used.
Standard keys are used to Increase (I) / Decrease(D) the size of the font used for the current section and to select a different Font (F).
Each File List window remembers a different font/size setting for each section (directory tree, file list or text).
Font and size settings like most settings for Kyboma are always remembered and the same settings will be used if you Exit Kyboma and restart.
When text is displayed on a pop-up window, the font/size settings will be the same as those for the text section of the file list window.
If the font/size settings are changed on the pop up window the changes will also be made on the text section of the file list window (if a text section is now shown or when it is later shown).
NB The font/size for the directory tree will not always be changed when options to change font/size for all sections are used. Only certain font/size combinations are supported due to inconsistencies in windows. To see a list of supported fonts press F when the current section is the directory tree.

Seperation Lines
When this option is checked, the file list will be displayed with a thin line between each row and each column.
The lines can only be seen when the file list is the current section and the non-fixed part is shown in white.
Click this menu item to switch the option on/off.
NB In the fixed rows/fixed columns lines are always shown between columns/rows respectively.
Date, Time, Size format
Use this option to enter the format in which Date/ Time and Size data should be displayed in the file list.
Date format will be used for columns Date (Date Modified), Created Date, Last Read Date.
Time format will be used for columns Time (Time Modified), Created Time, Last Read Time.
Size format will be used for Size column as well as other displays of a size in Kyboma.
You can either use a default format for windows or Define your own format
Define your own format for Date using characters d/dd/ddd/dddd, m/mm/mmm/mmmm and yy/yyyy.
Define your own format for Time using characters h/hh, n/nn, s/ss and am/pm etc.
Define your own format for Size using characters 0, #, . and ,
When any of the formats is changed on this screen, the date / time or size data in the file list will be reformatted.
Date format is made up of the following characters:
| d | day - no leading zero (1-31). |
| dd | day - with a leading zero (01-31). |
| ddd | day - as text (Mon, Tue, etc.). |
| dddd | day - as text (Monday, Tuesday, etc.). |

| m | month - no leading zero (1-12). |
| mm | month - with a leading zero (01-12). |
| mmm | month - as text (Jan, Feb, etc.). |
| mmmm | month - as text (January, February, etc.). |

| yy | year (01, 02, etc.). |
| yyyy | year (2001, 2002, etc.). |
Also extra information an be added to a date format using w/y/ww/q:
| w | day of the week (1=Sun, 2=Mon, 3=Tue, 4=Wed, 5=Thu, 6=Fri, 7=Sat). |
| y | day of the year as a number (1-366). |
| ww | week of the year (1-53). |
| q | quarter of the year (1-4). |
Time format is made up of the following characters:
| h | hour - no leading zero (0-23). |
| hh | hour - with a leading zero (00-23). |
| |
| n | minute - no leading zero (0-59). |
| nn | minute - with a leading zero (00-59). |
| m | minute - when the m follows h in format specification - no leading zero (0-59). |
| mm | minute - when the m follows h in format specification - with a leading zero (00-59). |

| AM/PM or am/pm or A/P or a/p | show character(s) indicating whether time is before or after 12-noon. The hh part of any format including one of these settings will always be less than 12. I.e. 18:40 will show as 06:40 PM |

For Windows 98, to change Short Date, Long date and Time Style:
- Select Settings - Control Panel from the start Menu
- Open Regional settings
- Click the Date Tab or use Ctrl+Tab key.
- Short Date is shown as Short Date style.
- Long Date is shown as Long Date style.
- Click the Time Tab or use Ctrl+Tab key.
- Change Time Style and/or separator.
NB Windows has several problems in the area of date/time formats. For Example:
- Windows Control Panel uses different names and options are in different places for each version of Windows.
- Some date/time formats will not be processed correctly by Windows.

Size format is made up of the following characters:

Size format is also used for:
- Number of bytes clipped.
- Total Bytes shown in caption of File List windows.
- Total bytes in all files selected.
- Number of Bytes to search in find files containing text.
- Show file size on pop up message screens.
- Show space amounts on Free space and space distribution screens.

Col Width
Enter a new width for the (GREEN) selected columns using this option.
The column width shown will always be the column width for the column where the selection was started. This will be the leftmost column if you select columns using the RightArrow key. Or the Rightmost column if you select columns using the LeftArrow key.
When you press OK on the Enter Column Width screen, all selected columns will have their width set to the value entered. I.e. all selected columns will have the same width.
Keys are also available to increase or decrease the column width of all (GREEN) selected columns.
[Usually Ctrl+O, Ctrl+Alt+O respectively]
The Increase column width key [Ctrl+O] will increase the column width by 20%.
The Decrease column width key [Ctrl+Alt+O] will decrease the column width by 20%.
NB Decrease column width will decrease the width by 20% of the new width.
Thus, Increase column width key can be Undone using the Decrease column width key (and vice-versa).
Increase/Decrease column width keys will always increase the width of each column by a % of the current width for each column.
To set the width of all columns to be the same, use the Enter Column Width screen.
Col Alignment - Left
Contents of each column can be aligned Left, Center or Right.
- Left: so that the start of the data is always shown in the leftmost part of the column
- Center: so that the data is centered in the column.
- Right: so that the end of the data is always shown in the rightmost part of the column
If the column is not wide enough, the data will be displayed over a number of lines.
However data will only display on a new line when a space is found in the data.
If any 'word' is too wide to fit in the column, alignment will also determine which part of the 'word' is truncated.
- Left: the rightmost part will be truncated.
- Center: equal parts of both the leftmost and the rightmost part will be truncated.
- Right: the leftmost part will be truncated.
A key is also available to change the alignment of all (GREEN) selected columns.
[Usually Shift+Ctrl+Alt+O]
When the Change Alignment key [Shift+Ctrl+Alt+O] is pressed, the alignment will be changed to Left then Center then Right then Left etc. starting from the current alignment value.
The Change Alignment key [Shift+Ctrl+Alt+O] will change the alignment of all (GREEN) selected columns to be the same. It will always start from the current alignment value of the leftmost column and change to the next alignment in sequence Left >> Center >> Right >> Left >> Center >> etc.

Set the columns in the file list which will remain fixed (and grey) when you move across the list.
Select any col (in GREEN) with the leftarrow/rightarrow keys and use "Current Row" to set that column and all columns to the left of it to be fixed.
Usually the left one or two columns will be icons and No. which will be fixed.
Use these options to add or remove columns from the fixed part.
When the scroll keys (Rightarrow, End, Home, etc) or scroll bar at the bottom of the list is used to move left and right and show different columns of the list, the fixed part will continue to be visible. Only the (white) rightmost part will be changed.
"Split - Set Col" or "Split - Set Row And Col" on the GREEN Right-Click menu for the file list will change fixed cols in the same way as Current Col.
Use "Add Col..." [Ctrl+J] to add a column to the fixed part.
Use "Remove Col ..." [Ctrl+Alt+J] to remove a column to the fixed part.

Row Height
Enter a new height for the (GREEN) selected rows using this option.
The row height shown will always be the row height for the topmost selected row.
When you press OK on the Enter Row Height screen, all selected rows will have their height set to the value entered. I.e. all selected rows will have the same height.
A fairly standard row height is 285. Enter a much larger number if a wide row is required.
For example to see the text in which values are found. The contents of this column will usually continue over a few lines.
A smaller row height can be used to show more rows on a single page.
Keys are also available to increase or decrease the row height of all (GREEN) selected rows.
[Usually Ctrl+W, Ctrl+Alt+W respectively]
The Increase row height key [Ctrl+W] will increase the row height by 20%.
The Decrease row height key [Ctrl+Alt+W] will decrease the row height by 20%.
NB Decrease row height will decrease the height by 20% of the new height.

When only one row is selected (in GREEN), the row height of the selected row will be copied to all rows.
When many rows are selected, the row height of the current row will be copied to all other selected rows.
The current row is the row where the (GREEN) selection was started.
If the selection was made using the UpArrow key the lowest selected row will be the current row. If the selection was made using the DownArrow key the highest selected row will be the current row.
The row height of fixed rows are also changed.
If the fixed rows then occupy too much height, reduce the number of fixed rows using Remove Fixed row [Ctrl+Alt+K].
The row height of the header (top) line will never be changed using this option.
Unhide all hidden rows
Use this option to show all rows that were hidden. Row height will be set to the standard value (285).
Rows can be hidden:
- Using "Hide / Unhide - Hide rows" on the popup menu for the file list.
- Using Row Height on the select menu and entering a height of 1.
Rows are also hidden by Kyboma when a file is deleted. However these rows will not be Unhidden.
Hidden Rows will be ignored:
- When use UpArrow/DownArrow keys to move up and down the file list.
- When display total files:dirs and bytes selected in the status bar.
- When making a list of files that are selected for Action/File/Quickmove actions.
- When using Alt+UpArrow/DownArrow keys to show files.
- When Find File Containing Text (F4).
- When copy current row height to all rows.
Hidden Rows will be still be processed:
- When find text in file List section (F3).
- When set Fixed Rows / Row Height (only when set immediately after have hidden).

Select any row/line (in GREEN) with the uparrow/downarrow keys and use "Current Row" to set that line and all lines above it to be fixed.
Usually the top header row will always be required on the top line.
Use this option to add or remove rows from the fixed part. When the scroll keys (PgDn, etc) or scroll bar is used to move down the list, the fixed part will continue to be visible and only the (white) lower part will be changed.
"Split - Set Row" or "Split - Set Row And Col" on the GREEN Right-Click menu for the file list will change fixed rows in the same way as Current Row.
Use "Add Row ..." [Ctrl+K] to add a row to the fixed part.
