New
Use New to create a new FileList window.
All selections will be copied from the current FileList window. If all FileList windows have already been closed, selections will be copied from the last FileList window that was closed.
If a new directory has been selected in the directory tree, that directory will be selected in the new window. The file list will also be refreshed immediately if the option to refresh the file list when a window is created is checked.
The window size and position used when a new FileList window is created is also specified on Options: Misc.
See Options - Creation of new window
Change Window Type
Window Type can be changed to Simple to reduce menu options available and make Kyboma work in a similar way to Windows Explorer.
In Simple mode, only a single directory will be listed. Also, contents of subdirectories will never be listed. The FileList will always be refreshed when the directory selected in the directory tree is changed.
When the FileList is in Simple mode, the caption for that window will show "(S)" in the caption for the window after the window type mnemonic.
In simple mode, many menu options are no longer available. Those options from Edit, Select and View menus which are essential are still available on the View(S) menu. Keys which apply to menu items that are no longer available will also not work. Press F1 to see a list of keys that will still work.
In simple mode it is not possible to define a multiple directory/file list or to list subdirectories. If these functions are required then you must first change the window type
Changing Window Type will change options as follows:
Simple File Manager:
Multiple Directories - UNchecked (and cannot be changed).
Include SubDirs - UNchecked (and cannot be changed).
AutoRefresh FileList - Checked (and cannot be changed).
Find/File Manager:
Include SubDirs - Checked.
AutoRefresh FileList - UNchecked
Key Ctrl+G can also be used to switch between Simple File Manager and File Manager window types.
NB File Manager and Find/File Manager Multi are both non-Simple window types. They differ only in the options that are set when selected. All the same menu items are available for these window types.
For More info on options changed see:
Quick Options - Multiple Dir Selection (includes info on Include SubDirs)
Quick Options - AutoRefresh File List
Toggle Position - Text - Move with Up/down keys
Toggle Position - Text - Move with Up/down keys
The file list window is split into sections (directory tree, file list, text). The part of the screen used for each section can be changed in a number of ways.
After you select this menu item, the window will be in "reposition mode" for the text separation bar. Press UpArrow / DownArrow keys to decrease / increase the proportion of the screen used for the text section.
In "reposition mode", the separation bar can be moved
- In larger steps using Ctrl + UpArrow / DownArrow keys
- In smaller steps using Shift + UpArrow / DownArrow keys
When you have moved the separation bar to the desired point, press the tab key to switch back to "normal mode". UpArrow / DownArrow keys will then move up / down the current section.
You can also move the separation bar
- by clicking on the separation bar with the mouse to start "reposition mode".
- with the mouse by dragging it to the required position.
- using the toggle keys to switch between two saved positions. See Save Toggle Position.
- using the toggle keys to directly change it's position. See Toggle keys can also be used directly.
Toggle keys can also be used directly to change the amount of space used for a section.
Ctrl+Toggle Key will increase the amount of space used for that section.
Ctrl+Alt+Toggle Key will decrease the amount of space used for that section.
The increase/decrease is always 20%.
E.g. Ctrl+T will increase the part of the screen used to display text by 20%
Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Toggle Key will show or hide that section.
Toggle Position - Tree - ....
Toggle Position - Tree - ....
After you select this menu item, the window will be in "reposition mode" for the Tree separation bar. Press LeftArrow / RightArrow keys to decrease / increase the proportion of the screen used for the directory tree section.
The same features are available and work in exactly the same way as Reposition Mode for Text.
The key to toggle the Directory Tree is R.
Toggle Position - Text - Save First Toggle Position
Toggle Position - Text - Save First Toggle Position
The toggle key will change the amount of the screen used for that section to one of two fixed values. Press the toggle key a second time to change it to the other value.
The key to toggle Text is T.
The key to toggle the Directory Tree is R.
The position is saved as a proportion (%) of the width or height available. The actual size used for the section when toggle keys are used therefore depends on the window size.
Toggle positions can be saved using "Text - Save ...", "Tree - Save ...", etc. on the Toggle position section of the Windows menu.
Toggle positions can also be saved by using the right-click menu from the separation bar.

Status Bar
The status bar consists of a DropDown List and optional sections:
Progress Indicator,
Selected Files/Dirs (Count & Bytes Selected) ,
Stop/Start Buttons.
It is always displayed across the full width of the main Kyboma window but will always apply to the current FileList window. The current FileList window can be easily identified as it is the one with a caption starting **.
The DropDown List part of the status bar will always be shown.
It will contain a list of Results, a list of Dirs/Files listed or a list of Errors according to which of the items "Show List of ..." is checked.
Other Sections will be shown only when the corresponding "Show ..." item is checked.
The Font and Fontsize used for the status bar is the same one as that used for all popup messages and options screens for the current FileList window. To Change the Font for the status bar start any option screen (E.g. Select By File Type) and Press F to change the font for both options screens and status bar.
The status bar will always be the correct height to display a single line of text. It is therefore dependant on the fontsize.

Status Bar - Show DropDown List Now
Status Bar - Show DropDown List Now
Use this Option to show the whole of the DropDown List contained in the status bar.
This List will contain a list of Results, a list of Dirs/Files listed or a list of Errors according to which of the items "Show List of ..." is checked.
When the list is dropped down, any entry from the List can be shown in full by clicking it with mouse. Or Use the DownArrow Key to select it and press Enter.

Status Bar - Show List of Dirs used for File List
Status Bar - Show List of Dirs used for File List
Use this Option to show the Dirs/Files currently listed in the the DropDown List section of the status bar.
The first line will always show a count of the directory / file specifications used.
Each detail line will show the File Type and Include Subdirs options used for the Directory/File. This was the default File Type and Include Subdirs option if no specific value was set.
If the last Refresh was interrupted, the text (interrupted) will follow the last directory/file which was (partially) read. Any directory/file which was not started will not be shown in this list.
The last line will always show whether the option to show directories in the FileList was selected or not. The last line will also include text "Include Hidden"/"Include System" when the option to Show Hidden/System was checked.
Dirs/Files currently listed in the FileList section are those that were selected the last time Refresh was done.
The Dirs/files to be listed the next time a refresh is done will be a different selection if changes have been made to the list since the last Refresh was done. See Select Dirs Files to list
Status Bar - Show List of Errors
Status Bar - Show List of Errors
Use this Option to show any errors that occurred when refresh was last done in the the DropDown List section of the status bar.
Errors that are shown here are problems with creating the list which did not stop creation of the entire list but which may cause some data in the list to be incomplete.
Examples:
File could not be opened.
Status Bar - Show Progress Indicator
Status Bar - Show Progress Indicator
The progress Indicator will show the % of a task that has been completed.
Examples:
For Move/Copy from the File menu, it shows the % of total bytes that have been moved or copied.
For any Action on the Action menu, it shows the % of selected files for which the action has been done.
Status Bar - Show Count Selected Files/Dirs
Status Bar - Show Count Selected Files/Dirs
When checked the total number of files and directories selected in the FileList will be shown in the status bar.
Only the files/directories selected in BLUE are taken into account when setting this count.
If both files and directories are selected, two numbers will be displayed in the for nn:mm where nn is the number of directories selected and mm is the number of files selected.
Status Bar - Show Bytes Selected
Status Bar - Show Bytes Selected
When checked the total bytecount of all files selected in the FileList will be shown in the status bar.
Only the files/directories selected in BLUE are taken into account when setting this count. If only directories are selected the number of bytes selected will always be shown as 0. The bytecount will be formatted using the same format string specified for FileSize column. See Date, Time, Size format
Status Bar - Show Stop/Start Buttons
Status Bar - Show Stop/Start Buttons
When checked, buttons will be added at the right edge of the status bar for Start and Stop.
Start will always start refresh of the current file list. See Refresh.
Stop will stop whatever Kyboma is now doing. This could be a File Management action, an Action from the Action menu or a Refresh.
Cascade
Use Cascade to show all FileList, Show Text and Show Cell windows in a cascading group. The title bar of each window will be visible.
Tile Horizontal
Use Tile Horizontal to tile all File List, Show Text and Show Cell windows. Windows will be tiled horizontally (with width equal to the screen width) so far as that is practical.
Tile Horizontal can also be done using a shortcut key [usually defined as Ctrl+H].
H will also work when keys are initialised using the option to add extra single Keys. See Include Extra Single Keys for Kyboma.
Tile Vertical
Use Tile Vertical to tile all FileList, Show Text and Show Cell windows. Windows will be tiled vertically (with height equal to the screen height) so far as that is practical.
Fill Width
Use Fill Width to use all available width for the current FileList or Show Text window.
The left side of the window will also be moved to the leftmost point of the screen.
The height and top of the window will not be changed.
Fill Height
Use Fill Height to use all available height for the current FileList or Show Text window.
The top side of the window will also be moved to the topmost point of the screen.
The width and left-position of the window will not be changed.
Fill Screen
Use Fill screen to use all available space for the current FileList or Show Text window.
Fill screen is similar to maximise. It is usually used when you want the file list window to be as large as possible but still be able to show text or cells in a pop up window.
It is different to a maximised window as the title for the file list window is show below the menu and status bar.
A Key [Usually Ctrl+N] can also be defined to Fill Screen for the current File List or Show Text Window.
N will also work when keys are initialised using the option to add extra single Keys. See Include Extra Single Keys for Kyboma.
