Clip
Clip or the Clip key (C) will copy the selected text or filename(s) to the clipboard.
You can then use Paste in the menus of many applications to insert the copied text.
ALTERNATIVE Shift+Insert will usually work wherever you are typing text.
The menu item will only be available when there is a valid selection in the current section. The caption on the menu will include the first part of what will be clipped.
What is clipped depends on the window with the focus. If the file list window has the focus, it also depends on the Current Section.
File List.
Directory Tree.
Text Section or Show Text pop up window has the focus.
File List.
The full path and file name of the selected directory or file will be copied.
The line selected in BLUE will be used if any. If no lines are selected in BLUE, the GREEN selection will be used.
If more than one directory and file are selected then a list separated by commas will be copied.
Use Ctrl+C to clip only the filename/type (not the path) of the first selected file. Selected directories will be ignored with Ctrl+C.
TIP When saving or opening a file in another application. Windows Open/Save dialog is often unhelpful/slow.
Use Kyboma to find the file/directory required and Kyboma Clip to copy the path and file name:
1. Use Alt+Tab to transfer to Kyboma, select the single file and press C.
2. Alt+Tab back to the save/Open dialog box
3. Press Shift+Ins to insert the full path and file name in the Filename box.
The count of files/dirs and first part of the list clipped will be shown in the list of results in the status bar (if shown).
Directory Tree.
The full path of the selected directory or drive will be copied.
The first part of the name copied will be shown in the list of results in the status bar (if shown).
Text Section or Show Text pop up window has the focus.
The selected text will be copied.
Text can be selected by holding the shift key down whilst you move the cursor (using up/down/left/right/PgUp/PgDn/Ctrl+End/Ctrl+Home).
Text can also be selected using the mouse by holding the left mouse button down and dragging the mouse on the text. If you drag the mouse beyond the start or end of the text currently displayed, text will be scrolled as well as added to the selection.
All text selected will be copied to the clipboard. If the file is very large, it is possible you selected many megabytes of data. In this case the file will be read to copy the text and progress will be shown on the status bar if option "Show Progress .." is checked on the Windows/Status Bar menu. You can press Esc to stop reading a large file.
WARNING. If you read more than 2 or 3 Mbytes, many applications will malfunction (or Windows will crash) when you try to paste the text. Kyboma can be used without problems to read files of several hundred Mbytes however opening such a file with Wordpad for example will crash windows.
Select All
Select All will select all files or all text.
It is available on the file list window only when the current section is the file list or the text section.
It is also available on the Show Text popup window and the Show Cell popup window.
When the current section is the file list on the file list window, all files will be selected in BLUE. Also the green selection will be changed to all rows of a single column - the start column of the previous GREEN selection
When the current selection is the text section on the file list window or the current window is the Show Text popup window, all text will be selected.
This includes text from the current file that is not currently shown. I.e. bytes selected will always be 1 to length of file displayed.
When the current window is the Show Cell popup window, all text will be selected.
Find
Find is used to search for a text value:
- within the Current Section (directory tree, file list or text) of the file list window or
- on the Show Text popup window or
- on the Show Cell popup window.
Find a value in the directory tree section will look for a directory name that is displayed containing the text entered/satisfying the complex criteria.
NB directory names that are not displayed (because the parent directory is not expanded) will not be found.
Find a value in the file list section will look for any cell containing the text entered/satisfying the complex criteria. The entire value to find must be in a single cell.
If a value is found in a hidden cell or fixed rows/cols, it will always be shown on a popup screen. Since the whole contents of each cell are often not visible it is often better to show all found values on a popup. See "Show Popup/Request ...".
Find a value in the text section or on the Show Text popup window will search the entire file displayed for any text entered/satisfying the complex criteria.
If found, the string will be shown selected. The F3 key will find the next string in the text.
At the end of the file you can loop back to the start of the file and re-start the search automatically.
Text will be found even if the file shown is very large. In this case Kyboma will read the file from disk and you can press the Esc key to stop the search.
Find or Shift+F3 will always display the Enter Find Criteria screen.

Simple Find Criteria
Complex Find Criteria
Simple Find Criteria.
Enter Value to be Found as "Containing Text"
Enter Value to be excluded "Exclude".
A single Exclude Value can only be entered here when there is no complex criteria. If a complex criteria is shown exclude values must be entered as a list on the Enter Complex Criteria screen.
If you want to find only values with the same case (small letters or capital letters), check "Match case".
If you want to find only whole words check "Match whole word".
To show each value found on a popup window, check "Show Popup/Request Action ...". This option is not available when searching the text section.
When the end of the list or text is reached. The search will be started again at the top. If option "Prompt when reach end ..." is checked, a message will be displayed before restarting the search at the top.
On the message screen F3 will find the next next value as described, Shift+F3 will display the Enter Find Criteria screen.
Complex Find Criteria
Press "Complex Criteria" to show the Enter Complex Criteria screen.
If a Complex Criteria is entered, it will be shown below the Text To Find On the Enter Find Criteria screen. It can also be easily removed here using the "Remove ComplexC" button.
To search again with a complex criteria that was previously used, press the "Last Criteria" button and select the search criteria required.
NB Find and Clip always apply to the window with the focus (title bar is blue/highlighted). This can be either the pop up text window or a file list window. To change the window, select a window on the Windows menu.
If a file list window has the focus, Find and Clip apply to the Current Section. To Find or Clip text first change section to Text.
The Current Section is the part (directory tree, file list or text) which has a white background.
To change the section, press tab or click on the section required.
Find Next
Find Next or F3 will always search for the next text value:
- within the Current Section of the file list window or
- on the Show Text popup window or
- on the Show Cell popup window.
The last criteria entered (for any search even if it was on a different section or an F4 search) will be used.
If no search has been done on the file list window the Enter Find Criteria screen will be shown.
When a value is found in the directory tree section the directory in which the value is found will be selected.
When a value is found in the file list section the cell in which it is found will be selected in GREEN.
If a value is found in a hidden cell or fixed rows/cols, it will always be shown on a popup screen. Since the whole contents of each cell are often not visible it is often better to show all found values on a popup. See "Show Popup/Request ...".
When a value is found in the text section or on the Show Text popup window, the text will be repositioned and it will be shown selected.
To show each value found on a popup window, check "Show Popup/Request Action ...". This option is not available when searching the text section.

| Define - Action Menu Item |
Define - Action Menu Item
Use this option:
To Add or Change an Action Menu Item
To Remove one or all Action Menu Items
The Action menu allows you to open any file with any application.
Action menu offers a much greater amount of flexibility than Explorer or other shell programs.
With a single F-key, files can be opened in other applications.
- Any file can be opened with any application regardless of its filetype.
- F-keys are available to open selected file(s) with a single keystroke.
- Action menu items can be defined easily by selecting from a list of Windows/Kyboma associations.
- Or use the wizard to automatically define a set of action menus corresponding to associations for a file type.
The Action menu is in four parts according to F-Key combinations that are available.
For convenience/ease of use, groups of applications can be defined on a group of F-keys with the same number.
This is the way that Action menus have been setup when you installed Kyboma. Use the Setup Wizard to do this again and change the final result.
E.g.
Define IE, Opera, Dreamweaver and Frontpage Express to use F12, Ctrl-F12, Shift-F12 and Shift-Ctrl-F12 respectively.
Define applications for viewing/changing pictures on F11 keys, etc.
The four parts are:
On the main action menu are Items 4-12 that are the external applications that can (mostly) be started using F-Keys without Shift/Ctl.
There are 3 other action submenus containing applications that will be started with Ctl+F-key, Shift+F-Key, Ctl+Shift+F-Key respectively.
E.g. To Access an application which is on Menu More Actions (Shift-Ctrl) at position 12 Shift+Ctrl+F12, hold both Shift and ctrl keys down and then press F12. The application will then be started once for each file selected.
Note that some F-Key combinations - e.g. F4,F5,F10 - are used elsewhere in Kyboma/Windows and therefore not available on the Action menu.

How To Fix Problems With Kyboma Associations or Action definitions
To Add or Change an Action Menu Item
1. Select The Action Menu Item to be Changed
2. Enter Details of Menu Item
1. Select The Action Menu Item to be Changed
Select Option Define/Action from the Edit menu.
All available Action menu items will be Listed whether or not a current definition exists.
On The List of Action menu items:
- "F-Key" will show F6, F7, F8, etc. when available.
If The F-key is shown as blank then that F-key is not available on the Action menu but is used elsewhere in Kyboma. E.g. F5, Shift+Ctrl+F5, Ctrl+F5 are used for refresh, add dir and refresh, single dir refresh.
- "Now defined as" will show Exe name and parameters.
Special application for the current definition will be shown here if the menu item is defined as a special application.
Parameters are shortname, noquotes and Use dde. These are listed when the corresponding option ["Use Short(8.3) File Names", "No quotes ..." and "Use DDE"] is checked.
- The Options column will contain FirstOnly / DoNotPause when the option is checked. It will also contain the directory entered for Move/Copy actions.
The DDE definition cannot be seen on this list. Select the action menu item and press the "Specify DDE parameters" button to view and change the DDE definition.
If any data is too long to be fully displayed, use Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+double_Click to see it.
[Hold Ctrl key down and double-click or press double-click key (usually Z)]
2. Enter Details of Menu Item
Description is used only for extra associations.
Usually it is easiest to copy an existing association that has been defined for either Windows or Kyboma.
To Copy an association, select "List Windows associations" or "List Kyboma associations".
Associations for all file types will be listed. Any existing associations for the current file type will be shown first.
Select any existing association using up/down keys on list or using the mouse and press Enter or Copy Association button to copy all details to the current definition screen.
NB the new association will not be saved until you press OK on the first "Change association .." screen.
See List Kyboma or Windows Associations for more help on the List screen.
Associations can also be entered manually as either a Link To another application or a Special Action.
Press "Special Action" to define an item on the action menu which calls one of the allowed Kyboma functions.
First press Special Action to choose the action:
Special actions include show file in Kyboma or Move/Copy File.
Select the action required from the list.
For Move/Copy a directory must also be entered to which the file will be moved or copied when the action is selected or if it is the default action when the file is double-clicked.
Select special action "Open/Print/Explore using Windows Association" to pass each file selected to Windows API function ShellExecute. See An alternative way to open files using the windows association.
Manual Specification of a Link To another application is recommended only for advanced users.
Exe name and command line parameters should be entered separately.
Exe name can be entered without a path (e.g. notepad.exe) if the program would usually be available without the path. A warning will be displayed if the exe cannot be found in a directory specified in the path statement.
Browse can be used to select an exe name.
If Use DDE is selected, you can enter standard DDE parameters in the same format as that used by Windows using the "Specify DDE ..." button. The documentation for the application to which the association points should be consulted for info on DDE parameters for that application.
If Pass file is selected, how many files to pass is specified using the "Specify Files ..." button. Usually file names passed will be enclosed within quotes to allow spaces within file names. For some older (Windows 3.1/Dos) applications, quotes will not be allowed. To override addition of quotes, check "No Quotes ...".
Additional options specify the format of the string to be executed. They Can be entered using the "Options" button.
Exe name parameter and file names will usually be concatenated as "exe parameter files". To avoid adding either or both spaces, check the option.
By default a long file name will be passed to the application. For old windows applications, a short name will be required and Use short (8.3) names should be checked.
Finally a command line string can be entered in the same format as used by Windows including parameters %1, %2, etc. The selected file name and printer parameters will be used to substitute the %1, %2 specifications.
To process a command line string in this way, enter the string as exe name prefixed with "Substitute %1 In: ".
To Remove one or all Action Menu Items
Select Option Define/Action from the Edit menu.
All available Action menu items will be Listed whether or not a current definition exists.
On The List of Action menu items:

Define - Special Links (Browser for Help etc)
Use this option to change:
- Internal links used to display help from the File List screen or from the Show HTML detail screen.
- Options to open the selected file on the file menu of the Show HTML detail screen.
First select which Link you want to change and then press either "Change Link" or "Use Wizard"
See:
1. Change Link
2. Use Wizard
3. Internal links used to display help
4. Options to open the selected file
1. Change Link will show the current definition of the selected Link. To change the link it is easiest to select an existing Windows or Kyboma association to be copied.
This screen works in the same way as that used for Define - Action Menu Item except that options do not apply to special links and are therefore not shown. See Define - Action Menu Item
2. The "Use Wizard" button will show the sources used to create the special link when Kyboma setup was run.
After changing the sources, press Next to continue to the second step of the wizard and display the actions found. You can then confirm/change/accept one of the actions as the new definition for this special link. The screens work the same way as those used in
Define - Action Menu Items (Setup Wizard).
See Define - Action Menu Items (Setup Wizard):
a. Select Sources
b. Confirm Actions to Use
3. Internal links used to display help.
All Kyboma Help is written in HTML (web pages) which will usually be displayed in your browser. Both the File List screen and the Show HTML detail screen will use the same link to show help.
To Change the Link used for display of help, select item "Browser For Help" from the list of special links.
This Link will not use a caption. Any value entered will be saved and displayed on this Change Link screen but not used elsewhere.
If you have IE installed, you can also enter a value of "LinkedIE" as the definition for Browser For Help. Enter LinkedIE in the box titled "Specify Exe Name for application and any parameters (except filename) [2]".
When you enter LinkedIE, the IE window opened to display help will be linked to the Kyboma window that created it (as long as it is used to display Kyboma Help). When you Exit Kyboma the corresponding IE window will automatically be closed.
The IE window created with option LinkedIE will be also be simpler (easier to read) than your standard IE window.
Menus, toolbars and explorer bars will not be showm. To Show help in a regular IE window (with menus, toolbars and explorer bars), simply change the special link and copy any Windows or Kyboma association which works to display a (HTML/other) file in IE.
4. Options to open the selected file on the file menu of the Show HTML detail screen.
The Show HTML detail screen is used to display tag examples, scripts, etc. extracted from any of a list of files or to display the source of any HTML file split neatly into trwo seperate columns of tags and text respectively.
It is very useful when looking at examples to load a particular file in a browser or to open it with notepad (the same display that would usually be shown when you select View Source from the context menu of IE).
This option will define up to three Special Links to be available on the File Menu of the Show HTML Detail screen. The three menu options will also be accessible using shortcut keys F12, Ctrl+F12, F6.
See File-Menu [Show HTML Detail] - Open Selected File.
The Caption entered is the caption that will appear on the File menu of the Show HTML Detail screen.

If "Elliptical selection box" is checked, the box will be a thick green ellipse shape. If this option is not checked, the box will be a black rectangle.
Refresh
Refresh or F5 will make a new file list on the current file list window.
Refresh will also check the directory tree and if changes have been made by another application, the directory tree will be updated. Changes in Kyboma are always updated on the directory tree on all Kyboma windows immediately.
After Refresh is pressed it can be interrupted using the Esc key or the Stop button on either the progress box or Status Bar (when available).
Make file list will be interrupted if you press F5 again (e.g. after changing directory selected in the directory tree).
If the file list takes longer than a second or two, a progress box will appear on top of the file list section. This will show the total number of files and directories listed.
File List will be regenerated with new selections of directories/files to list, file types, columns and other options if they have been changed.
When the current section is the directory tree:
For a single directory list the selected directory in the tree will always be listed
For a multi directory list, you will get a message when the selected directory in the tree is not included in the list. The message screen allows a single directory list for that selected directory or to add that directory to the current list.
Otherwise the directory (list) selected (See Select Dirs & Files To List) will be listed.
When the file List is made:
- Include Subdirectories (see Select By File Type) will determine whether all subdirectories are listed. For a multi directory/file list this option can also be specified separately for some directories in the list (See Select Dirs & Files To List).
- Show Directories (see Select By File Type) will determine whether directories are shown in the file list.
- "Show Hidden ...", "Show System ..." (see Select By File Type) will determine whether all files / directories with attributes (properties) Hidden / System are shown.
- The selected file type (see Select By File Type) should be * for all files. If a file type (list) is specified, only file types that match the selected file type will be included in the file list.
- The selected columns (see Select Columns) will determine which columns in the file list are shown. Columns will always be removed from the current file list immediately when they are removed from the selection on Select Columns screen. Some columns can only be added when the file list is refreshed.
- The current sort order (See Sort By items) will be used to sort the file list after the refresh is complete.
- Option "FileList - File path & name in Lower case" will cause all entries in columns FileName, FilePath and Type to be converted to lower case (small letters).
- Option "FileList - Dirs at top when refresh" will cause all directories listed to be placed at the top of the list.
NB If the file list is sorted, directories may no longer be at the top. If the first sort column is FileName or Type or Size then directories will always be together at the top or bottom of the list.
- Option "Renumber after refresh" will cause the Sequence Number (No.) column to be set to 1,2,3. If no renumber is done, the No. column may not be the same as the order in the list (if the list was sorted or directories were placed at the top).
- After the file list is completed it will usually be sorted if one of the Sort By items is checked on the View menu.
No sort will be done if "Skip sort after refresh ..." is checked on Options: Make File List.
No sort will be done if "No Sort" is checked on the View menu.
- If a refresh is stopped, the file list will not be sorted. If option "Prompt to do sort ..." is checked then a message will allow the user to choose whether to sort or not.
These options can be changed on Options: Make File List but any change will only be actioned when the file list is next refreshed.
